Tajikistan is a country in Asia. Dushanbe is the capital and largest city. Tajikistan was part of the Soviet Union until 1991.

History of hockey in Tajikistan[]

An ice hockey championship was staged in the Tajik SSR during the 1950s. Bandy has also been played there. Actually, the location of the highest known altitude where the sport has been played is in the capital of the Tajik autonomous province of Gorno-Badakhshan, Khorugh.

Tajikistan planned to field a bandy team at the 2011 Asian Winter Games. However, they withdrew prior to the start of the tournament. These were the games they were schedule to take part in: February 1, 11.45 Kazakhstan - Tajikistan; February 2, 10.00 Tajikistan - Mongolia; February 3, 10.00 Tajikistan - Kyrgyzstan[1]

An indoor ice rink opened in Khujand as part of a sports complex in 2012. The rink measures 30x40 in size. Tajik president, Enomali Rahmon, was present for the opening of the Khujand Sport Arena, which houses the facility.[2]
