DEHG Prag was a German sports club based in Prague, Austria-Hungary, founded in 1905. Its full name was the Deutsche Eishockey Gesellschaft Prag.

The club consisted of bandy, ice hockey, skiing, and bobsleigh sections.

History[]

1914 DEG-Bud

DEHG and BKE Budapest battle in Prague in 1914.

Initially known as the Bubentscher Eishockey Gesellschaft, the club joined the German Ice Hockey Federation, which they remained a member of until later joining the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation (OEHV).

The bandy section took part in the 1908 Austro-Hungarian Bandy Championship, where it lost to Leipziger SC 13-3 in the final.

DEHG was responsible for organizing and hosting the Ringhoffer Pokal, starting in 1911. They won the inaugural 1911 tournament, defeating ČSS Praha 4:3. The club also played a friendly against the Oxford Canadians in Prague on January 8, 1911.

In 1912, the year DEHG first played ice hockey with a puck, the club participated in the Bohemian Championship and the Bohemian Crown Lands Championship. They reached the final of the Bohemian Championship, losing 2-0 to CSS Praha. In the Crown Lands Championship, their match against Ceský spolek pro zimní sporty ended 0-0 and lots were drawn to decide a winner. They favored zimni sporty and DEHG was thus eliminated from the tournament.

In commemoration of the outdoor facility at Belvedere they adopted in January 1913, the DEHG Tournament was held. It was won by Berliner Schlittschuhclub.

Internationally, the squad represented Austria at the European Championships in 1912 and 1913. They were a member of the German Federation at the time of the 1912 tournament, but was allowed to participate in connection with the newly-founded Austrian Federation.

IN February 1914, DEHG reached an agreement with the OEHV. The association would become a member of the association, but were allowed to continue to compete against Czech clubs, even if they were not members of the federation. DEHG officially joined the OEHV in November 1914.

They took part in the German Championship in 1914, losing in the semifinals to Berliner Schlittschuhclub, 12-0.

The club was inactive from 1915 to 1918 due to World War I. They later resumed operations and continued playing games into the 1930s after becoming part of Czechoslovakia. They competed in the ethnic German Association Championship during this time period.
