The Belgian National Team made its international debut in 1909 and participated in the inaugural European Championship in 1910, winning the bronze medal.

They won gold at the 1913 European Championship and claimed a total of five medals at the competition. As hosts, Belgium participated in the 1920 Olympic tournament. They made three subsequent appearances in the Olympics (1924, 1928, and 1936).

The national team played in the first World Championship in 1930. They took part in the top division until 1951, but have played exclusively in the lower tiers ever since.
